Trainer Gerald Ryan reports all is on track for Melito to end a frustrating run of four consecutive placings at Group I level in Saturday’s Group I Winter Stakes (1400m) at Eagle Farm.
After securing her maiden Group I victory in the T J Smith Stakes at Randwick in April, Melito has since taken on the best and has run three seconds and a third at the ultimate level, her most recent effort when beaten in the last stride by Black Piranha in the Stradbroke Handicap.
“It would be nice to get a photo,” Ryan said, fresh from a double at Rosehill on Saturday and winning the Eyeliner Stakes at Ipswich with Adnocon.
“Her work Tuesday morning was very similar to what it has been leading into her last few runs, same time and same type.
“She certainly hasn’t gone backwards; everything appears all on track with her.”
Ryan also has both Ego’s Dare and Ahdashim nominated for Saturday’s Group III W J Healy Stakes (1200m).
“Ego’s Dare is in terrific order, he has freshened up nicely since his last run behind Catapulted and worked really well this morning,” he said.
“I’m still making up my mind on whether I will start Ahdashim, I’ll work that out later in the week.”
