McEvoy-Damaged vertibrae

Darley jockey Kerrin McEvoy will be sidelined indefinitly after scans revealed he damaged a vertebra in the fall in Wednesday’s Listed Takeover Target Stakes at Gosford on Wednesday.

McEvoy was sent crashing to the turf when his mount Skytrain fell near the 200 metre mark of the race, attempting a run between Mount Verde and the eventual winner Border Rebel.

As Skytrain was falling, he collected Newton’s Rings, whose jockey Alex Stokes was also dislodged.

McEvoy’s manager Glenn Darcy said initial x-rays taken at hospital on Wednesday night didn’t provide a positive outlook.

“It looks like he might have a crack in a vertebrae,” Darcy said. “I spoke to his wife Cathy last night and she wasn’t sure which vertebrae it was but apparently it’s in the middle.

“They are moving him from Gosford Hospital to Royal North Shore today and they will do more thorough testing so we’ll know more later today.”
Meanwhile, Alex Stokes escaped serious injury from the fall and rode trackwork at Broadmeadow on Thursday morning.

“She’s alright, she rode trackwork this morning and she’s riding today,” Stokes master Steve Hodge said.

“They checked her out at hospital and let her out a couple of hours later so she was very lucky.”
