Trainer John Shirreffs expects Australian Horse of the Year Scenic Blast to bring his world class form to Hollywood Park on Sunday when he makes his US debut.
Scenic Blast will carry the topweight of 123 pounds in Sunday's Robert K. Kerlan Memorial, a six furlong handicap on the turf worth $US60,000.
Scenic Blast, a triple Group One winner in 2009 of the Lightning Stakes and Newmarket Handicap in Melbourne and the King's Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot in England, will wear blinkers and will start from gate six in a field of seven.
He will be ridden by champion jockey Mike Smith who has been impressed by the trackwork of the former Perth-trained sprinter.
Scenic Blast was sent to Shirreffs in California in a bid to extend his racing career after he suffered a bleeding attack in the Hong Kong Sprint at Sha Tin in December that earned him a mandatory ban from racing in Australia.
He has been treated with Lasix, the sanctioned anti-bleeding treatment, in training.
Sherriffs said Scenic Blast had been given a long preparation before having three serious 1000m work outs and there had been no sign of blood in the gelding's airways.
"I have been very pleased with how well the Lasix has worked,” Shirreffs reported.
Shirreffs is aiming Scenic Blast at the $US1.2 million Breeders' Turf Cup Sprint at Churchill Downs in November.
