Melbourne's leading apprentice Jason Maskiell has been dumped by his master Mick Price with the Caulfield trainer ordering him to find a new stable.
Price gave Maskiell his marching orders from his Caulfield stable after running out of patience with the 19-year-old's behavior.
Maskiell is reported to have drinking problems and Price has accused him of mixing with the wrong company.
"We're a professional stable and don't tolerate unprofessional behavior,” Price told the Herald Sun.
“He has been mixing with the wrong people and drinking, and I won't tolerate drunks in my stable."
The former Tasmanian apprentice has ridden 50 winners in Melbourne this season and win the Victorian apprentice's premiership and finish second to Luke Nolen on the metropolitan table.
Price has advised Racing Victoria that he wants Maskiell to find a new master.
"I haven't officially cancelled his indentures. He will ride under my stable banner until he moves to another trainer, but he's gone from here,” Price said.
Racing Victoria has offered Maskiell counselling and support while he battles to keep his career afloat.
Maskiell had his indentures transferred to Price 12 months ago after riding 114 winners in Tasmania.
He has been in Tasmania staying with grandfather, trainer Ken Hanson, and has declared that his binge drinking is over.
"I believe in myself as a jockey and I intend to have a future, not to waste my opportunities,” Maskiell declared.
