Sydney conditioner Gerald Ryan’s outstanding Brisbane winter carnival has continued after Ironstein recorded the trainer’s third feature win in as many Saturdays in the Listed Caloundra Cup at the Sunshine Coast.

Ryan claimed the Listed Eye Liner Stakes with Adnocon on June 19 before Melito took out the season’s final Group I race with a hard-fought win in the Winter Stakes at Eagle Farm last Saturday.

Jockey Michael Cahill had the son of Zabeel travelling comfortably just off the speed before pushing Ironstein to the lead with 300 metres to run.

Cahill got the best out of Ironstein over the last 100 metres to hold off the Mike Moroney-trained Tinseltown who ran on well from a rearward position.

Chris Munce gave Teary Eyed every chance before the five-year-old one-batted to the line to claim third ahead of the honest Lang.

Stathi Katsidis managed to get Our Lukas across from his wide gate to lead at the post the first time before allowing Eddie Wilkinson to assume the pacemaker’s role aboard Solid Billing.

Our Lukas joined the leaders at the 400 metres but the Ipswich Cup winner found his 58kg impost too much in the run to the line, weakening to finish 10th as a $9 chance.

The win was Ironstein’s fifth from 14 starts and took his prizemoney past $250,000.
