No doubt about Jack now

Leading trainer Peter Moody has flagged a Group I Toorak Handicap start for emerging three-year-old Doubtful Jack after he trounced his rivals in the Listed Winter Championship Final at Flemington.

Jockey Luke Nolen had the $1.60 favourite in the perfect spot from barrier three, before easing the son of Not A Single Doubt around the tiring leader Silky Smooth on the home turn.

Nolen asked Doubtful Jack for an effort at the 300 metres before the three-year-old raced away from his rivals to record a 6-1/2 length win over the game Pinnacles.

“I think he has booked himself a spring carnival now,” Moody said.

“He couldn’t have been more impressive at his last three wins. I’m not surprised, I always thought he had good ability, but the leap he has made in the last six weeks has been phenomenal.

“He’s doing it comfortably and it seems so effortless. I think we’ll go home and sit down and assess where we might head with him.”

Moody said the Group I Toorak Handicap (1600m) at Caulfield in October would be suitable for Doubtful Jack.

Veteran galloper Riceman ran home well from the back of the field to claim third.
