Leading Victorian trainer has positive swab

Racing Victoria stewards have opened an investigation into a positive swab from one of the state’s most prolific trainers.

RVL stewards announced The Pentagon, trained by Michael Kent, returned a positive swab containing traces of Ibuprofen following its win in the Andersons Country Challenge 0-68 Handicap at Sale on June 6.

Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal substance commonly used as an anti-inflammatory agent and is a prohibited substance in the Australian Rules of Racing.

Stewards advised Kent of confirmation of the Racing Analytical Services laboratory findings at Wednesday’s Sandown meeting.

Stewards said the investigation into the swab is continuing.

Kent prepared Robdon Flyer to claim the Lincoln Handicap (2400m) at Sandown with Peter Mertens in the saddle.

The Cranbourne trainer currently sits fourth on the Victorian trainers’ premiership with 84 wins, 33 of those have been in the metropolitan area.
