Fairytale filly suffers injury setback

Brilliant filly Chance Bye has been injured a track gallop at Kembla Grange, leaving trainer Michael Tubman in doubt about her spring programme.

Tubman was dismayed to find that Chance Bye had cut a hind leg after she was ridden by Kathy O'Hara in a jump out at Kembla this morning.

“She finished third and I was disappointed but the reasons became obvious after the gallop,” Tubman reported.

“I expected her to go a lot better but we found she has cut her leg badly – it's a real worry.”

The injury to the coronet band is an old problem Tubman says has plagued the filly since she went into training.

“”When she accelerates she explodes and change stride and can clip her hind legs,” Tubman said.

“She has done it since her first jump out and did it again in the Golden Slipper.

'We have tried a few things to fix it and she had been perfect until this morning.

“Now I am between a rock and a hard place as I can't go into a race second guessing with her.

“It seems the problem is getting worse.”

Today's setback threatens to derail the early spring program Tubman has mapped out for the fairytale filly of the Sydney season.

She was unbeaten going into the Golden Slipper in April and Tubman was thrilled with the way she performed in a recent 800m barrier trial at Kembla Grange where she finished second.

Tubman said the $15,000 bargain filly had pulled up in great order after the trial and he was aiming to bring her back to racing in the San Domenico Stakes at Randwick on August 7.
